Jersey

All players must purchase a jersey when they first join a team. These jerseys are also purchasable at the canteen via cash or card - they’re currently $50 each.

🧢 Number preference New players are provided a numberless jersey (to ensure you have one ready for season start). If you would like a jersey with a specific number email [email protected] and it will be included in the next batch order.

Groin Guard

Groin guards are recommended for players of all ages and genders. The are an insurance requirement for all male players taking the fields. They are a non-negotiable requirement for North Short Development League Players (Under 17). Male NSDL players will not be able to participate on game days unless they are wearing a groin guard.

Belt

If you’re buying a belt for the first time, or just want to upgrade, we ask that you purchase a blue belt.

If you’ve already got a pink, purple, red, black or any other colour belt, that’s okay too.

Pants

If possible, we prefer you purchase white baseball pants so that you can use them when you make The Riptides squad. Both long pants and knickerbocker style pants are acceptable.

If you already have grey pants, these are also okay to use in SCBA league play.

Sliders

Untitled

If you plan on sliding, it’s recommended that you wear a pair of sliders or sliding shorts (under your baseball pants). Some models include extra padding on your “landing zones”. Saving you from nasty grass and/or gravel rash. Some models also include groin guard holders.

Socks

You’ll also need team socks. A pair or knee high Royal Blue Riptides socks is always a respectable choice. With long pants, your socks are mostly hidden but proper knee length sports socks provide an additional layer of protection and are highly recommend regardless of your pant length. With knickerbocker style pants, knee high socks are a must. Preferably in your team colour.

Most players prefer the Thinskins brand due to their comfortable yet protective thickness and long-lasting elasticity***.***

Cleats

Depending on your league, you’ll be able to wear either metal and moulded cleats.

⚾

Players under the age of 17 are not permitted to wear metal studs or cleats!

As players move into senior leagues, they’ll generally prefer metal cleats, which are designed for the specific type of dirt used on baseball cutouts. Keep in mind that most of the running track at The Mudjimba Diamonds - The Home of Baseball on The Sunshine Coast, is grass which lends itself to moulded cleats or indeed soccer/footy style boots.

“Grasscats” or touch-football shoes as well as trail-running shoes are preferred by a number of players also. Basically, anything with a decent tread for grass will work fine, but you’ll struggle to get any grip or acceleration playing in a pair of running shoes or flats/joggers.
